Same books.
A much lovelier corner.
I liked everything beside my bed. I just wanted it to look as though it belonged there.

If you have come here from the photograph, you probably noticed the basket first.
I noticed the books on the left. That familiar pile beside a bed, with a cable caught underneath and one book leaning against the rest. A little corner that looks as though someone is halfway through tidying it.
I know that corner rather well.

The pile was never just a pile
At 67, there are books I know I will read again. Books I have been meaning to start. Books I keep near me because choosing one at bedtime is a small pleasure I have no intention of giving up.
They are quite sensible things to have beside a bed. Yet stack enough of them on the floor and they begin to look like a job you have been avoiding.
That was what bothered me. Fresh sheets, curtains drawn, the rest of the room looking nice — and that little corner still waiting to be finished.
A shelf would have meant finding room for another piece of furniture. A lidded box would have put the books out of sight. I wanted something I would be happy to leave exactly where I used it.
Then I saw the cats on the books
Two little cats, one ginger and one black, sitting above a row of colourful book spines. Flowers tucked between them. A cream background that lets all those colours stand out.

It is such a fitting design for a reader’s bedside that I had to smile.
The basket is from Liora London’s laundry basket collection. I would not have thought to look there for book storage. The photograph made the connection for me.
The open top lets you see what is inside. The sides gather the books into one place. And the pattern gives you something pleasant to look at from the doorway.
A corner can look cared for without losing the things that make it yours.
That is the change I see in those photographs. The bedroom has the same furniture. The books are still close at hand. But the corner looks considered, as though it has a place in the room.
Something lovely for a room you use every day
I have always been quicker to buy something for the sitting room than for the bedroom. Visitors see the sitting room. The bedroom can wait.
But we see our own bedroom every morning and every night. We are the ones looking at that corner while we put on our slippers or turn down the bed.
There is a quiet satisfaction in making it look the way you want it to. You notice it when you walk past, even if nobody else ever mentions it.
And it feels more personal when the useful thing suits you. If you love books and cats, this design makes sense before you have put a single thing inside it.

What I would check before choosing one
Start with the space beside your bed. Measure the width you have, allowing room to walk past and open any nearby drawers. Then compare it with the measurements on the design you choose.
Think about what you want within reach. For books, the height matters as much as the width. A few current reads may be easier to reach in a smaller basket than at the bottom of a larger one.
Choose for the corner, rather than simply choosing the biggest. Books are heavy. For this use, I would keep the basket in place and move the books separately when it needs cleaning underneath.
The collection includes these size options. Check your chosen product page before ordering.
| Size | Width × height (inches) | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 14 × 18 in | £34.95 |
| Medium | 16 × 22 in | £41.95 |
| Large | 20 × 28 in | £47.95 |
The corner you keep meaning to sort out
Perhaps yours is beside the bed too. Perhaps it is a few magazines next to your chair, or the knitting you like to keep nearby.
There is often a good reason those things live where they do. That is where you use them.
I like the thought of giving them a proper place there. Something useful enough for everyday life and pretty enough to feel part of the room.
The books can stay. So can the pleasure of reaching for one at bedtime.
The corner can simply look a little lovelier.
